Congressman Bob Filner Stands Up for Medical Marijuana

Democratic congressman and San Diego mayoral candidate was the featured speaker at a medical marijuana rally and march that took place in Ocean Beach on Monday, December 26.

The organization Americans for Safe Access gathered a vocal crowd of an estimated 50 to 75 people at the foot of Newport Avenue.

Filner spoke about how he supports the usage of medical marijuana. He also decried the recent ramped-up federal efforts against the dispensaries and stated that he "does not understand" why other mayoral candidates are not speaking up against what some activists are calling a persecution of patients who need their medicine.

Filner wore a collared shirt that read "BOB FILNER FOR MAYOR" across the back. He turned his back so the several photographers could get a good photo of his shirt.
