Congress plans pot-info ban

One month after US Drug Czar General McCaffrey told a Congressional committee that he was getting "rolled in the public arena" by Cannabis Culture and other pot-supporters, a bill has been introduced into the US Congress which would ban all pro-pot books and websites. Anything which explains how to grow or use cannabis, or any other prohibited plant or substance, would be completely censored.

DNA pot test

A researcher at a Scottish university has developed a test which can detect cannabis in extremely minute quantities through DNA analysis.
Dr Adrian Linacre developed the test at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. In an interview with Cannabis Culture, Dr Linacre explained how his test uses a special technique called "polymerase chain reaction."

Microsoft millionaire backs pot
A Seattle ballot initiative to permit pot to be sold in liquor stores got major financial backing from an ex-Microsoft programmer. Bruce McKinney, who left Microsoft two years ago, donated $100,000 to the Campaign for the Restoration and Regulation of Hemp (CRRH), sponsor of Initiative 229.

This is one of the 9 plants I harvested this cycle. I trimmed my plants grown in 10" buckets so that each had only a few branches. A single 600-watt HPS lamp lighted the 3' x 3' garden. The plant in the picture is a M39, which yielded over 48 grams. It grows like an indica but has a mostly sativa high. This harvest was my best yet.

Florida could become the first state to engage in biological warfare within its own borders, if Florida Drug Czar Jim McDonough gets his way.
McDonough is pushing hard for Florida to release genetically modified strains of a fungus called Fusarium oxysporum, generally known as a pest which blights tomatoes, peppers, flowers, corn, vines, and many other crops.

Brit jury clears med-pot supplier
On July 22, Colin Davies, founder of England's Medical Marijuana Co-operative, was acquitted by a jury of cultivating and supplying cannabis to med-pot patients.

Davies sustained severe back and neck injuries from a fall in 1994, and found cannabis eased his pain. In 1998 he was charged with cultivation, and cleared after the jury accepted court testimony that he used the plant medicinally.

Norway grants refuge to US smuggler

The Norwegian Supreme Court has declared that US prisons do not meet their minimum humanitarian standards, and on July 16 refused to extradite accused American hash-smuggler Henry Hendricksen.
In 1997, Hendricksen was arrested in Norway and charged with conspiracy to smuggle 50 tons of hash into the US in 1991 (but not from Norway). Charges were filed in Vermont.

The pineal gland, located in the centre of the brain, is about a quarter of an inch in size, reddish-gray, and weighs about one-tenth of a gram. Unlike other parts of the brain which come in pairs, the pineal gland is singular. Seattle Hempfest

The last major summer hemp festival of the century took place on a surprisingly sunny Sunday August afternoon at Myrtle Edwards Park on the waterfront in downtown Seattle, Washington.
Described by medical marijuana advocate Dennis Peron as "the best single-day event in the pot movement," 1999's Seattle Hempfest was the biggest ever.
