An animal-based study in the May 2003 Journal of Physiology showed that THC reduced acid reflux, a reflex that pushes stomach acid into the esophagus. THC may therefore be beneficial in reducing heartburn and inflammation of the esophagus in humans.

Adding another light

I am growing plants in two trays in an area 4' x 5'. I am using a 1000-watt HPS lamp. I'm thinking about adding another 1000-watt lamp to the area. Heat is not a problem since I am using water-cooled lights. Is 100 watts input per square foot too much for the plants? I don't think so because the sun is brighter than the two lamps combined.

An investigation into the Lauderdale County Drug Task Force has revealed allegations that officers dropped charges against suspects in return for cash and vehicles. Also, over a dozen vehicles and many drugs seized by the task force cannot be found.

A recent study has shown that cannabinoids can reduce allergic reaction to egg whites. Published in the April 2003 journal Toxicology and Applied Pharmacology, the study found that THC and CBN both reduced the mucus overproduction, elevation of serum IgE, and inflammatory response typically produced upon exposure.
The researchers concluded that cannabinoids "exhibit potential therapeutic utility in the treatment of allergic airway disease."

NY cops kill city worker
Sometimes it's hard to tell your friends from your enemies. Alberta Spruill, 57, died on May 16, after New York City Police mistakenly raided her home. Officers kicked in her door, threw in a stun grenade, handcuffed her to a chair and searched her apartment for drugs while she coughed, choked and then had a heart attack.

For 29 years, Spruill had worked at the Department of Citywide Administrative Services, where she kept lists of candidates hoping to become police officers.

A major study is examining the benefits of a synthetic cannabinoid in "post-surgical cognitive impairment," which occurs in many patients undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery. Israel's Pharmos Corporation announced in April that they had begun a Phase II safety study to determine the effectiveness of dexanabinol, a patented derivative of THC which does not cause a high.

Thanks to recent court decisions, the Canadian province of Ontario is now one of the world's freest zones for marijuana users.
In 2000, Ontario courts gave the government one year to change the law to make marijuana available for medical use, or else the laws against cannabis would be struck down entirely. Yet the Liberal government didn't change the law, they merely enacted new regulations, which are themselves being challenged in court.

An undercover police officer in Fort Meyers, Texas, wearing a McDonald's uniform, worked a McDonald's drive-through window many times between March 21 and April 25. When the McCop saw lawbreakers he radioed nearby officers, who would pull them over and make the arrests. They managed to make six arrests and issue 29 citations, for offenses ranging from pot possession to not wearing a seat belt.

Should I grow the plants, let them flower and then regenerate the plants, eventually choosing the best one, or should I make clones when the plants are still growing vegetatively?

Researchers at Germany's Wurzburg University have shown that a synthetic cannabinoid called HU-210 helped prevent heart failure in rats. Heart failure occurs when the heart cannot pump enough blood through the body, and is a possible consequence of a heart attack or disease.

Our plants are flowering and all of the plants have done well, but we keep getting hermaphrodites. They destroyed the last harvest. Most are from seeds we have ordered. We removed them from the garden but it was too late. They pollinated most of the crop. What should we do? Metro Narcotics officers Mark Watson and Christie Richardson were charged with hundreds of offenses occurring over a one-year period. In October 2002, a group of medical marijuana advocacy organizations, called the Coalition for Rescheduling Cannabis, asked the DEA to make marijuana more available for research and medical use.
Currently, marijuana is grouped along with substances like heroin in "Schedule One." This classification ensures that medical access to cannabis is illegal, and places severe restrictions on medical pot research.

Mississippi cops as cocaine escorts

The last of five corrupt MS police officers was sentenced in July, ending a series of trials resulting from an FBI sting in 2000. Six officers were charged with taking payments of $500 and $1000 to protect shipments of cocaine. One officer resigned and charges were dropped. The other officers received sentences ranging between one and eight years.

A Missouri police officer was charged in May with perjury in three drug cases. Deputy Michael Isenberg, member of the Mid-Missouri Unified Strike Team and Narcotics Group (MUSTANG), allegedly lied to juries in three drug cases, saying he was present during drug buys when he was not.
