Dare.com hacker gets jail

Teenager gets hard time and a hefty fine

A teenager who broke into dare.com and two other websites will likely be sentenced to between nine months and one year in jail after pleading guilty on January 2.
Dennis Moran, 18, admitted that in 1999 he hacked into websites for DARE, a US government site about the Chemical Weapons Convention agreement, and an internet security company. At the DARE site he wrote "Drugs are really excellent" above a picture of a rat smoking pot. At the chemical weapons site he wrote "Praise Allah and also Coolio for making this all possible!" along with a "pornographic photo." DARE asked for $18,000 in damages.

Moran will be formally sentenced in the Spring, and likely faces a $15,000 fine along with the jail time.
