In 1991, an editorial in the British Journal of Addiction condemned the inordinate amount of resources devoted to drug law enforcement, and compared the war on drugs to the witch hunts of the past.

It's an apt comparison, since drug warriors around the world are influenced more by myths, stereotypes and propaganda than by solid evidence. And when confronted by evidence that conflicts with the myths, stereotypes and propaganda of the drug war, the warriors seek to bury it rather than address it head on.

Marc Emery, the cannabis seed seller who is viewed as a drug kingpin by the US government, emerged from jail on August 5 a week after Canadian police acting under orders from the DEA kidnapped him from a public street in Halifax on July 29.
He emerged from jail barred from operating his seed business, which has closed permanently, but greeted as a hero-martyr by a burgeoning marijuana activism community energized by the arrest of Emery, his assistant Marijuana Man, and his close associate Michelle Rainey-Fenkarek.

All three have now been freed from jail.

Vancouver ? A California woman who has been denied refugee status and ordered to return to the United States to face marijuana charges was granted bail on Friday as she fights her extradition.
Renee Boje's case was adjourned until Sept. 30 in B.C. Supreme Court.

Ms. Boje, who fled to British Columbia in 1998, lives in Vancouver with her Canadian pot-activist husband Chris Bennett and their child.

En route from Amsterdam to Brussels by train, he was arrested for possessing 250 grams of cabbage leaves mixed with pot and given a 200 Euro fine. Police seemed unsure whether the grass was meant as a special garnish for a cabbage salad, or if he was merely trying to conceal his stash.
