Marijuana Activists Take Stand Against Bill

CARSON CITY -- Medical marijuana advocates testified Monday that a bill prescribing prison sentences for growing more than seven marijuana plants will prevent sick people from getting their "medicine."

"This bill would send many patients to prison," testified Pierre Werner, a former medical marijuana patient who spent 19 months in prison.

Under current law, the sentence for growing marijuana for sale depends on the pounds of marijuana grown. Senate Bill 262 targets medical marijuana card holders and bases their sentence on the number of plants they are growing.

Marc Emery, the cannabis seed seller who is viewed as a drug kingpin by the US government, emerged from jail on August 5 a week after Canadian police acting under orders from the DEA kidnapped him from a public street in Halifax on July 29.
He emerged from jail barred from operating his seed business, which has closed permanently, but greeted as a hero-martyr by a burgeoning marijuana activism community energized by the arrest of Emery, his assistant Marijuana Man, and his close associate Michelle Rainey-Fenkarek.

All three have now been freed from jail.

Marc Emery's seed company was raided Friday, July 29, by Canadian agents acting under orders from the DEA.
The raids were a DEA operation; it is the US government that is laying charges against Emery and two co-defendants, who were all arrested.

If there ever is a trial related to these charges, the American drug warriors want it held in America.

Renee Boje's case was adjourned until Sept. 30 in B.C. Supreme Court.
