This has been shown by a study carried out by Valérie Daugé and her team at the Laboratory for Physiopathology of Diseases of the Central Nervous System (UPMC / CNRS / INSERM) in the journal Neuropsychopharmacology. The findings could lead to therapeutic alternatives to existing substitution treatments.

Samantha Orobator became pregnant in prison, according to a spokeswoman for rights group Reprieve.A 20-year-old British woman accused of smuggling heroin may have been raped and impregnated in prison.

A pregnant British woman facing possible execution in Laos will go on trial this week, the country's foreign affairs ministry said Monday.

Samantha Orobator "is facing death by firing squad for drug trafficking," said Clare Algar, executive director of Reprieve, a London-based human rights group.

Pot almost always leads to the munchies, but sometimes it's the other way around. For example, an Ohio businessman delivered pot with pizza from his downtown shop until he was arrested in June. Also, this year's largest bust in El Paso, Texas, came when customs agents pulled over an 18-wheeler attempting to cross the border with 3,500 pounds of marijuana hidden in lettuce and strawberries.

The DEA maintains 78 offices in 56 countries around the world?? Mexico tops the list with eight DEA offices. Most western countries have a DEA office in their capital city. Canada is now one of the few western countries with the honor of having two DEA offices.

A 36-nation anti-drug operation coordinated by the DEA in late 2000 claimed far more success than it actually had, according to a report published in the Miami Herald.
The DEA initially told the media that $30.2 million in criminal assets were seized during the month-long "Operation Libertador." But actually $30 million of that was taken four weeks before the operation started, in the arrest of a single accused cocaine dealer.

? On October 3, Sheriff Carlton Evans of Coffee County, Georgia, shot himself in the head rather than face arrest by FBI agents for growing and distributing thousands of pot plants. Also charged are his brother, a brother in law, and seven other men, two of them former police officers.
During his election campaign for Sheriff, Evans said he was running on his record of cleaning up drugs. He was described as "the scourge of South Georgia marijuana farmers."

US anti-drug commander imprisoned

In July, a federal judge sentenced Colonel James Hiett, former commander of the US? military's anti-drug operation in Colombia, to five months in prison for trying to launder $25,000 in cash from his wife Laurie's heroin and cocaine smuggling operation.
The US Embassy in Bogota was used as a point of transfer, and Laurie Hiett used the diplomatic postal service to transfer over 15 pounds of heroin and cocaine into New York.
