Marc Emery, publisher of this fine magazine, founder of the BC Marijuana Party, and my friend of over a decade, is currently serving a 92 day sentence for passing a single joint in Saskatoon.

The constant of change

Making change

After almost 10 years of producing this magazine, and pushing for changes to the marijuana laws, sometimes it can be hard to see what we have really accomplished in terms of liberating our culture.
In Canada, marijuana arrests continue to rise. Despite public opinion which increasingly supports legalization, and despite political promises to "decriminalize" the herb, more Canadians are going to jail for marijuana every year.

War and peace

As members of the global cannabis culture, we live in very interesting times, and we have unique insight and perspective into world events.
We know that the war on marijuana is a real war, with armed soldiers, political prisoners and violent death. We see how the drug war has become an excuse for police brutality, political oppression, mass imprisonment and military invasion.

From Marijuana Party to NDP

On November 27, I officially resigned my membership in the Canadian Marijuana Party, and my role as Leader of the BC Marijuana Party. I did this so I could join Canada's New Democratic Party, commonly known as the NDP.

Canadian revolution

Within the first weeks of 2003 we saw some pretty dramatic events in the weedy world of marijuana.
In Canada, court cases started piling up which declared that the nation?s pot laws were invalid and unconstitutional! Canadian med-pot patients have been getting their pot back from the police, and the government is talking about formally making pot possession into a simple ticketing offence.
