Legal Showdown Over Medical Marijuana Law in Washington State

A legal showdown over Washington’s medical marijuana law is taking shape in Spokane.

At issue is a provision in the voter-approved law that allows caretakers to supply up to 1.5 pounds of marijuana at a time to those with state-issued medical marijuana cards.

Some medical marijuana advocates believe that allows them to lawfully supply one patient at a time. Spokane County prosecutors say the provision limits each caretaker to just one patient – period.

Dutch police were left red-faced after swooping on what they thought was an illegal cannabis farm only to partly dismantle a scientific experiment, the university that owns the plants said.

“More than half the plants were destroyed,” Simon Vink, spokesman for the University of Wageningen in the east of the country, told AFP on Thursday.

The plants were part of a legal experiment on the suitability of cannabis fibres for the production of textiles, paper and synthetic materials, he said.

Riot police stormed a 30th birthday party for just 15 people and shut it down, thinking it was a rave because it was advertised on Facebook.

Four police cars, a riot van and a helicopter were involved in the swoop on Andrew Poole's gathering for his family and friends.

LAS VEGAS - On Sunday, a SWAT team attempted to serve a high-risk narcotics search warrant in Henderson. During the incident, police said Emmanuel Dozier, 32, shot at the officers, striking each in the leg.

Dozier's girlfriend, Belinda, said none of the officers identified themselves as police.

"They kept banging the back of the house -- everywhere," she said. "We didn't know it was the police."

After hearing the banging and one of his daughters yell for help, Dozier said he took steps to protect his family.

Vancouver hemp store and seed emporium, the Amsterdam, was raided for the third time on July 29 at 8 pm. The Amsterdam?s owners, Karen Watson and Sita Windheim, are both facing charges of trafficking in marijuana seeds. One of their employees was also charged and spent the night in jail.

Police entered the store with a warrant and ransacked the place, confiscating about $3,000 retail in cannabis seeds. According to store employees, the police expressed reluctance with having to raid the store.
